RE7-DXfm is a refill designed around one of the most famous synths from the 1980's. Unlike Rack Extensions like PX7, and other soft-synths that recreate the synth in digital form, The ReFill is focused on the real analog sound 'captured'. The ReFill focuses on the stock sounds, just as if you went back in time 30 years & took the synth brand new out of the box, and not all that add ons that came after it.

Product details

The RE7-DXfm is a synthesis based digital synthesizer manufactured from 1983 to 1989. It was the first commercially successful digital synthesizer in production history.

Tone generation in the RE7 -DXfm is based on frequency modulation synthesis, which was developed based upon research by John Chowning at Stanford University. This uses multiple sine wave oscillators, which can modulate each other in various configurations offered as 32 "algorithms", thus generating a wide variety of possible harmonic and inharmonic spectra. It used DDS oscillators based on linear phase modulation, allowing improved precision and stability. The RE7-DXfm was known for the precision and flexibility of its bright, digital sounds, which could be clearer and less linear than those of the subtractive analog synthesizers that preceded it. The synth is well known for its electric piano, bells, and other "struck" and "plucked" sounds which emphasize complex attack transients. Phase modulation as used in this and later synthesisers is capable of generating a wide range of both imitative and purely synthetic sounds.

The Goal

What we have done is taken the best of what is an expansive sound library from the original synth. We have decided on the sounds that best say what the RE7-DXfm was all about, the sounds that defined it and put it on the map as truly a legendary piece of music production history.

WARNING:

Be advised, Digital snobs may not be able to comprehend what these ReFills represent. If you were not around in the 1980's or you are used to being spoiled by modern digital soft-synths, then maybe these ReFills are not for you. If you are used to synths where you hold one note and it writes the whole melody for you, then best avoid these pieces of history. What these ReFills represent is the original soundbanks factory fitted to iconic synths.

In a world where mere mortals will find it hard to experience owning some of these hardware synths without winning the lottery or robbing a bank, we have spent a long time getting them just right, specially for the Reason rack. Each Hardware ReFill contains over 12GB of data and each one is delivered in a whopping 6 to 7GB refill. It is recommended that you are running a reasonably up to date system 4Gb Ram and a decent processor would be strongly advised
